In order to extend our layout with Brusio and Cavaglia we had to create a 180degree turn. Both Brusio and Cavaglia brought the trains further away from our central part and this is used to return back to base.
These two 90degree modules or corner modules have another important function for us. Here is the the turnout that enable us to connect to other, external layouts. Especially those of other regions in the VSZ.

Above is the complete scheme of our layout including Brusio and Cavaglia. This page is about the green marked modules on the left hand side.
Please find a picture based report below of the construction of the corner modules.

Eurospoor 2010.

The way we use our corner modules on Eurospoor.
We want to add one more module between Brusio and the corner to make a better transition in the landscape. This gives us the opportunity to make room for the typical cooling houses, Crotties, which are located there in the real world.

Turnout in close up.

A look at the other side of the tunnel with the branch line to "outside" our layout.

A bit more grown

22-Oct-2010
The overhead catenary is done and some trees finish the landscape.
On to Eurospoor.

Ballast along the rails

18-Oct-2010
After the second layer or litter has been applied and glued, you can remove the tape from the rails. Time for the ballast. I also made a start with the overhead catenary because that shouldn't fail.

Make it green

18-Oct-2010
Once the rocks have dried you can make grass on the rest of the slopes.
First paint the slopes in the color of the Swiss underground (light brown) and while the paint is still wet, scatter some litter, color "earth". If this has settled you can apply the next layer of color, "burnt grass".

Plaster over it

16-Oct-2010
First you put tape over the rails. After that, apply plaster over the Styrofoam and let it dry completely.
Then make it soak wet again and apply color to the rocks by using black and brown paint or water stain.

In Styrofoam

9-Oct-2010
First you create the rough form of the mountains in Styrofoam. Big blocks, quickly done.
Do watch out that you first put the tunnels in with the overhead wire else you won't be able to get it in anymore. (See also the picture above)

The corner modules

9-Oct-2010
We have 2 modules with a 90 degree turn in order to get from Cavaglia to Brusio or v.v. They finally need to get more shape.
